Samurai warriors were the military nobility in pre-industral Japan. The term samurai is derived from the archaic Japanese word samorau, changed to saburau, which means 'to serve' - as a samurai was the servant of a Japanese lord. Samurai warriors were known to utilize a variety of different weapons, the most famous being the katana sword. They Lived their lives according to the Bushido ethical code, or 'way of the warrior' - which emphasizes loyalty, frugality, mastery of martial arts, and loyalty until death. Their violent existence was tempered by the wisdom and serentiy of Confucianism and Buddhism.
