Pharaoh is the name for the royal king in the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The word Pharaoh means "great house", and originally referred to the king's palace. The meaning loosened over the course of Egyptian history, eventually becoming interchangeable with the Egyptian word for "king". Pharoah originated from the Latin word "phao", meaning "powerful". Although Egyptian rulers were generally male, the term was still used on the rare occasion when a female was ruler.
The pharaoh was considered to be an incarnation of the falcon god Horus, and the son of his father Osiris. After Osiris was killed by his brother, Seth, Horus fought his uncle Seth for control of the throne - a process that would be symbolically demonstrated in the proper burial of a new pharaoh's predecessor in Ancient Egypt. The new pharaoh took the role of Horus, who carried out the last rites of the deceased Osiris. Ideally this kinship was passed on from father to son. Pharaohs often demonstrated that they were the chosen heir who had been granted a divine right to power.
Cold Cast is a modern method of casting sculptures using a mixture of resin and powdered polymer materials. The finished sculpture has a surface which looks very similar to traditionally cast material, but tends to be much lighter.
