In Ancient Egypt, there were an elaborate set of burial customs that were believed to be necessary in order to ensure immortality for the deceased after they passed away. Such rituals and processes included mummification, magic and the casting of spells, as well as burial with specific grave goods though to be needed in the afterlife. The burial process used in ancient Egypt evolved throughout time as old customs became outdated and new customs developed, but several important elements of the burial process persisted. The preparation of the body, the magic rituals that were involved, and the grave goods which accompanied the deceased were all essential parts of an ancient Egyptian funeral.
