Leonardo da Vinci (full name Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci) was an Italian polymath, being a scientist, engineer, mathematician, anatomist, inventor, painter, sculptor, architect, musician, writer, and botanist. Leonardo has often been described as the model of the 'Renaissance man', someone whose unquenchable curiosity was equalled only by their powers of invention. Leonardo is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters in all of history, and one of the most diversely talented people ever to have lived.
Da Vinci created 'The Vitruvian Man' around 1487. A world-renowned drawing (with accompanying notes) recorded in his journal, it depicts a nude male figure in standing in two superimposed positions with arms and legs apart. The figure is inscribed in both a circle and a square. The drawing is sometimes called the 'Canon of Proportions' or 'Proportions of Man'. It is based on some hints at correlations of ideal human proportions and geometry in Book III of the treatise De Architectura by Vitruvius, the ancient Roman architect.
Cold Cast is a modern method of casting sculptures using a mixture of resin and powdered polymer materials. The finished sculpture has a surface which looks very similar to traditionally cast material, but tends to be much lighter.
